Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Central Asian Shepherd Dog Mix History

All hybrid or designer dogs are tough to get a good read on as there isn’t much history to them. Breeding specific dogs like this has become common in the last twenty years or so even though I am sure that this mixed breed found it’s share of dogs to the shelter due to accidental breeding. We will take a closer look at the history of both parent breeds below. If you are looking at breeders for new, designer dogs please beware of Puppy Mills. These are places that mass produce puppies, specifically for profit and don’t care at all about the dogs. If you have a few minutes, please sign our petition to stop puppy mills.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel History

Thought to have originated in the Far East, toy spaniels were first seen in Europe during the 16th century. In the early parts of the 1700’s, John Churchill, who was the 1st Duke of Marlborough, kept red and white King Charles type spaniels for hunting. He liked the fact that they could keep up with his horse while it was trotting. He won the battle of Blenheim and thus his estate was named Blenheim in honor of the victory. This influence made the original King Charles Spaniel be called the Blenheim. The 20th century saw attempts to restore lines of King Charles Spaniels to the breed of Charles II's time. These included the unsuccessful Toy Trawler Spaniel and the now popular Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The original Spaniel was a favorite of royal and noble families.

Central Asian Shepherd Dog History

The Central Asian shepherd dogs originated in the region of the world where you would think - Central Asia. Like a lot of breeds of dogs they were bred for a purpose to be along their human counterparts. They are protection dogs, guardians of the flock or herd and unfortunately some for fighting.
Obviously over time the Central Asian Shepherd was bred with other dogs and non-pure strains were common. Overtime more pure stock has been purposefully bred. Early Central Asian Shepherd dogs were fought against one another for an interesting reason. When Shepherds would meet their flocks or herds would interact and the strongest dog would win out. Therefore it was in the Shepherd’s interest to have the strongest dog. This was done for dominance more than sport and they weren’t allowed to truly hurt one another. When Shepherd’s would gather they would pit their dogs against each other to help breed for the more dominant traits. These dogs are still used in Russia and Central Asia as protection dogs and livestock guardians.

"A lot of times diet is done on a per-dog basis. Each one is unique and has different dietary requirements. Most dogs in the U.S. are overweight. A mix like this one that is prone to hip and elbow dysplasia should really be on fish oil and glucosamine and chondroitin supplements as soon as possible. A good diet to look into is Raw Food Diet. A raw food diet will be especially good for the Wolf background.
