Breeding specific dogs like this has become common in the last twenty years or so even though I am sure that this mixed breed found it’s share of dogs to the shelter due to accidental breeding. We will take a closer look at the history of both parent breeds below. If you are looking at breeders for new, designer dogs please beware of Puppy Mills. These are places that mass produce puppies, specifically for profit and don’t care at all about the dogs. If you have a few minutes, please sign our petition to stop puppy mills.

Clumber Spaniel History

There is a story that states that the Clumber's origin began when the French Duc de Noailles sent his entire kennel of spaniels to the Duke of Newcastle in England in order to preserve them during the French Revolution. There isn’t much evidence to support this, but that is what is told.
It goes without much argument that the spaniels take their name from Clumber Park in Nottingham. A fella named William Mansell, who was the Duke’s gatekeeper is credited with breeding and shaping the modern day Clumber Spaniel that we know today. They are obviously a hunting breed known for retrieving and typical hunting activities. The Clumber Spaniel made its way to North America in 1844 via a British military officer. To this day, it is a very rare breed of dog.

Croatian Sheepdog History

The Croatian Sheepdog quite obviously comes from Croatia. It is an ancient breed, and actually began in the region of Croatia before it became a sovereign nation. They were obviously a herding breed and used as such for centuries. In 1935 breeders started to purposefully breed and fine tune this breed. A Croatian veterinarian named Professor Doctor Stjepan Romic began selectively breeding Croatian Sheepdogs for various traits that he thought were desirable.
