Polish Lowland Sheepdog History

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog, also known as a Polski Owczarek, Nizinny, and the Valee Sheepdog. Known in its present form in Poland from at least the thirteenth century, the Polish Lowland Sheepdog is most likely descended from the Puli, Tibetan Terrier and the herding dogs. These dogs were bred with the local Scottish dogs to produce the Scottish herding dogs, most obviously the Bearded Collie.It was almost driven to extinction in World War 2 but was brought back via some good breeders. It was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2001.



Portuguese Pointer History

The Portuguese Pointer obviously hails from Portugal. It is thought to have descended from Iberian hunting dogs. It is a very old breed of dog traceable back to as early as the twelfth century. It started off as a dog for royalty, but later became a common dog for the common folk. This breed was taken to England in the 1800’s and is thought to have been the beginning of the English Pointer. They are considered a hardy breed with no known health issues specific to them.

Plan on taking them for extremely long walks and hikes to keep their energy level down. This mix will more than likely have a high energy level. This exercise will keep them from being destructive. This is an intelligent dog that will be a little bit challenging to train. It might have a prey drive and be disposed to running for and chasing small prey, but if handled properly this can be managed. All dogs respond best to positive reinforcement.
